I had a chance to take a few photos yesterday on the town owned Queset House and was pleasently surprised to learn that they are restoring the old victorion era Queset House garden located in the back. Gloria Freitas, the town flower and plant guru, is directing the operation which includes a wading pool with fountain, an outdoor stage, lots of interesting architectural garden elements and plants and flowers galore when completed. They mentioned they were looking for volunteers to help with the effort, contact he library for more info...

The Slide Show
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Queset House is a house located at 51 Main Street, North Easton, Massachusetts next to the Ames Free Library. The house was designed by noted architect Andrew Jackson Downing in 1854 under commission from industrialist Oakes Angier Ames. In 1872 John Ames Mitchell designed its rear extension. Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted planned its grounds.
The Ames Free Library purchased the house in 2007 and will rename it the Fanny Holt Ames Center. The building will be used as an extension for the library's collections and activities.

| Burt, once again you have so kindly provided us with photos of places we might never have gotten to see otherwise. Many thanks. When one sees the Ames family legacy all around Easton, and that legacy is a very large portion of what makes the town of Easton so special, it is unfathomable to "old natives" that anyone would think of destroying irreplaceable buildings that are a part of that legacy and the specialness. |

It's really my pleasure, photography is just one of my little hobbies. Just when I thought I was running out of things to photograph in town, I get the Langwater invite and then this one. I would have gone inside but I was in shorts and a t-shirt while I see everyone march in all decked out so I thought I would explore outside a bit. As far as the neglect and potential destruction of all these historic properties, I think their might be a realization that they should have been kept in the family all along. |

| Burt, very nice photos. I had the pleasure of attending an event at the Queset house over a year ago and it is impressive. Does anyone have an email for Gloria Freitas? |

I would say go through the library or the clerk's office. The garden club had a website but it seems to be broken. |

Since there is a lot of construction going on during the week, I would wait for the weekend or after hours. It's public property now so there shouldn't be a problem especially outside. If you want to get inside, check with the library who has authority over it. |
