You're right JPJP, it was the famed Pickle Barrel. I was too young to go but remember the giant red barrel that was part of the bldg. My parents said it was a rough joint.

I remember the Pickle Barrel. Some friends had their wedding there--still have the pictures!! We all had a great time!!
Food was always good--plenty of it and at a decent price but I don't remember it being a rough place.

Back then there were some really great places to eat in Easton but they are all gone now. Yes, there are some "new" places in Easton but not many I would go back for a second time or recommend.

Didn't one of the Blood Brothers play in the band. I think he might have owned it at one time. He was on the police force. Can't remember if it was Gene or George.

Picture on the bottom in front row far right is Jake Jacobson. He worked for the town and lived on Pine St.

Anyone remember?

I just came from Dr. Kirk, the dentist, and I mentioned the place to him. He went on about how he new it well and it being owned by the Blood brothers. he said the brother that was a policeman died in a motorcycle accident on route 106 and he was also a musician. He said it was quite a place...

Now i remeber the Forge Tavern, when both those bars would get out, rt 138 and 123 were filled with loud cars speeding home.

It was Gene Blood. And if my "old" memory serves me well, he played the drums.

A couple of other other places I now remember that were on Route 138 are LaPage's and 400 Club. One of our favorite pizza places back then was The Corral at Five Corners which is now Maguire's.

Eastonmom, the sign for the "Forge" is now hanging at a bar across from Huggard and Ewing on 138 in Stoughton.
Waaaaay back in the day before we had EMS, Gene Blood took my mom in the back of the Easton cruiser to the Goddard hospital to deliver the bundle of joy that became me!

And way-y-y back before that, George was my Sunday school teacher at Evangelical Congregational church! Every once in a while they would switch up and Gene would show up - we thought they were the coolest!

I think everyone has a story or two about the Forge and Pickle Barrel. At one time or another they where some of the hottest places in town. Don’t forget about the 1882 House!

That’s sad; I always wondered what happened to Officer Blood.

Are you being facetious? Trading one drug for another is not the answer.

I got the joke the first time ...and you're right about the Dip..let us not forget those narrow windy stairs up to the Embassy bar ...another fire disaster that thankfully never happened!

I met a couple of local folks today at yard sales and they both went on about the Pickle Barrel and the Blood brother twins when I asked about. Seems Gene is still alive and doing well. Apparently George was on his way to play at a place on 123 on the corner of Highland St. that is now a convenience store.
