The old Easton movie theatre?
Located on top of Pires harware store. I assume it has all been remodeled over however last time i was up there(about 1990ish)i assumed that and the chairs and screen were still there.
??? |

I remember a hallway but don't recall seeing any chairs or anything that looked like a movie theater. I think there was an alarm company up there at one point. Was the theater upstairs or did it encompass the whole building? |

| I remember it upstairs (late 50s) - went up a set of stairs on the left. One Saturday, the film broke and couldn't be fixed on the spot. We all got our $.25 back, and were told to come back next week for free! No rain checks or tickets, just anyone who showed up the next Saturday got in free. Try that at a megaplex today! |

Could have been 1980ish(instead of 1990ish). It basically looked unchanged but also unkept. It was dark,musky,it looked like the aises were being used to store large bags of lawn products. At the particular point in time, it looked to me like the theatre could be restorable for historical purposes. Like the RR station has been restored. |

The problem with that it's owned by private individuals and they can do whatever they want with it. I beleive that building originally manufactured boots even before the movie theater so it does have lots of historical signifigance. There was a long stretch of Center Street that had quite a lot of commerce and industry going on.
This town is so rich in history and if it were up to me, I would try to restore, save and purchase as much of town history as possible.
I think we are missing the boat on what is happening to the money we are contributing to the Community Preservation Fund. Let's think about the meaning of "PRESERVATION"
Definitions of preservation found on the web:
"the activity of protecting something from loss or danger"
"To keep in perfect or unaltered condition; maintain unchanged"
"The careful guarding of an asset"
"The act or process of preserving, or keeping safe; the state of being preserved, or kept from injury, destruction, or decay;"
The Henderson Farm, once of the last working farms in town and maybe the last, we let go to private development, there is a historic home across from the monument that sits rotting, waiting for the demolition ball and there are many other historic places that need to be saved. So we have millions sitting in the fund, doing what? There is a committee that meets on a regular basis deciding what to do with our money and yet there is still no agenda, minutes or anything on the town website concerning the CPA fund. I think we should be outraged, sorry.. |

| Are we talking about the theater in North Easton? Went for a dime to Saturday matinees to see two films, a short subject and the news. I recall a left turn after a bridge on Main Street (I think) and it was right there or near. I do not recall going upstairs but it was a small building. Once my Dad took me to an evening showing of Bittersweet with Nelson Eddy and Jeannette McDonald. Cost a quarter! |

| I still have the 100% white wool letter sweater from the Betty Jean Shop - bought in 1964! It's yellowed, and the only letter I got was from the OA Tiger Band (flute!) |
