(BROCKTON, MA) – School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA), the only organization in Massachusetts providing customized one-on-one tutoring, backpacks, school supplies, college assistance, educational advocacy, and parental support for students impacted by homelessness, is seeking volunteer tutors and book-lovers for its Summer Reading Odyssey, a five-week program beginning the week of July 7.
Tutors will meet for one hour each week with a small group of students for reading and writing activities. Students’ progress will be tracked along the way, and the program will end with a celebration at each tutoring site!
The program is being run at the following locations:
• Family Life Center, Brockton, Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm
• Louison Center, Brockton, Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm
• Lincoln Tech, Brockton, Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00 pm
• Quality Inn, Brockton, Mondays, 6:00-7:00 pm
All volunteers must attend a 2.5-hour tutor training on either Wednesday, June 25, 6-8:30 pm, or Saturday, June 28, 12-2:30 pm. Tutors who have attended SOWMA’s regular tutor training do not need to stay for the last 30 minutes of the summer program training. Register online at www.sowma.org.
