Not only did they vote to raise the gasoline tax but they indexed it to inflation (which makes this a progressive tax) but it doesn't take effect until they have the next election safely behind them. Sounds pretty gutless to me.

I have to say I give props to the School Committee and all of the representatives that were in support of the capital planning amendment last night. They did what people have the right to do at TM and decided to make a grab for more funding it was a bold move and one that was really unanticipated (well at least to me but sometimes I am not the best judge of these things).

I voted against it due to the fact that I see a bigger picture here, the schools did not ask for extra $100k to begin with in the normal process plus I also see that other departments (Police, Fire, Ambulance to name a few) could have really benefited from the extra 100K also. Police and Fire are not even close to 2009 staffing levels and had to settle for 2 "half year" positions instead of 2 FT positions that are really needed.

Mr. Mom: True enough....but ultimately, the TM form of government proved itself antiquated and unworkable yet again last night, when it dissolved due to lack of a quorum. The pre-vote discussion of issues, which I agree is an important part of the voting process to get up to speed on the issues, also happens in the election process and is in my view a far better option for the reasons I described.

Burt, I agree...most worthwhile things take work. You'll know we're headed in the right direction when our leaders make the same level of effort towards moving to the town council/town mgr. organization as they have in updating the town's master plan, with the same level of involvement, commitment, transparency, and public outreach.
