I believe you disagreed with the premise and the use of the Delphi Method within that post, but I hope you see when looking at that online survey, that this is what I was getting at. With that, it is a good thing that Easton residents are keeping an eye on this. This survey has limited answers and as you mentioned there is "forced ranking" and no "none of the above option. I'm concerned can be done multiple times by a person from various computers, by people outside of Easton and it is especially ripe for being skewed towards a certain agenda if answered by a number of people within a "special interest group" (for instance - "green" or bicycle groups).

Sounds pretty gutless to me.

If in fact, IF more taxes was the only way out, they should have just voted on it to take effect immediately and stand by their vote in the next election (while it's still fresh) but that won't happen because that's not who they are....

They did what people have the right to do at TM and decided to make a grab for more funding it was a bold move and one that was really unanticipated (well at least to me but sometimes I am not the best judge of these things).

I voted against it due to the fact that I see a bigger picture here, the schools did not ask for extra $100k to begin with in the normal process plus I also see that other departments (Police, Fire, Ambulance to name a few) could have really benefited from the extra 100K also. Police and Fire are not even close to 2009 staffing levels and had to settle for 2 "half year" positions instead of 2 FT positions that are really needed.

Either way at least the schools got the money they had originally asked for so that in and of itself should be good enough for this year.

The pre-vote discussion of issues, which I agree is an important part of the voting process to get up to speed on the issues, also happens in the election process and is in my view a far better option for the reasons I described.

Burt, I agree...most worthwhile things take work. You'll know we're headed in the right direction when our leaders make the same level of effort towards moving to the town council/town mgr. organization as they have in updating the town's master plan, with the same level of involvement, commitment, transparency, and public outreach.

Best,

Mark
